When your little girl starts to become a young woman, one who doesn’t want her childish toys around anymore, it’s time to give her bedroom a makeover. Though you may have ideas that seem great to you, remember that it’s her room, and she’s going to want more privacy during her teen years than she did when she was younger.
Everyone’s likes, needs, and desires change over time, and this is especially true of teenagers. Here are some ideas that can help the two of you create a stylish bedroom that works for her:
Put function first: Organize a traffic pattern that allows for moving around and accommodating her friends.
A grooming station: A dressing table and mirror, or even a feminine desk and wall hung mirror will provide storage for cosmetics and hair accessories and a space for doing makeup and hairstyling.
A study area: A desk and chair, or a comfy armchair and small folding table that can be stored out of the way when not in use.
Storage for books and hobby supplies: Perhaps a window seat flanked with bookshelves that also provides additional storage for bulky or out of season items.
Something a little exotic: How about like a chair swing hung from the ceiling or a fabric decoupage chest of drawers? Let her creativity run wild!
Duvet or bedspread and puffy pillows in her favorite colors: Ditto for paint colors and artwork.
The key to all of this is open communication and collaboration, so that when you’re done, your and your daughter will both love her new room!
