Even large bedrooms never seem to have as much storage space as most of us would like. That’s one reason that giving careful thought to furnishings is so important!
Here are five ideas for increasing your bedroom’s storage capacity without taking up much (if any) additional space:
Invest in an armoire: Preferable one with a full length mirror on the front so you check your appearance using the same space. Armoires are so versatile; you can store your bedroom TV as well as your clothes in the same piece of furniture.
Use bedside chests: Instead of buying bedside tables, opt for matching bedside chests of drawers, which can store underwear, T shirts, socks and sweaters as well as other sundries. You’ll get as much surface as you would with a table but no wasted space.
Invest in under the bed storage: Whether you use covered plastic bins, wicker baskets or build in sliding drawers under your bed, don’t let that space go to waste! It’s invaluable for out of season clothes and bedding and a host of other things nor currently in use.
Choose pendant or wall-mounted lamps: Free up even more horizontal space by using wall-mounted or pendant lamps instead of table lamps.
Bookcases on either side of a window: Often the space on either side of a window isn’t used to best advantage. Buying—or building in—a pair shallow bookcases there will add substantially to storage, not only for books but for collectibles you may want to display as well.
Window seat: The ultimate double use storage vehicle, a window seat will not only store bigger items such as luggage. When topped by a comfortable cushion it can provide a cozy reading nook or napping space as well!
