We all get puffy, irritated eyes now and again. Assuming they’re caused by too little sleep, too much partying or environmental factors such as smoke, you may find one of these natural remedies effective:
Cucumbers: Their astringent properties help dilated blood vessels to contract. Lie down or sit with your head leaned back and close your eyes. Place a slice of chilled cucumber on each eyelid leave for 10 minutes.
Cold wet tea bags: Almost any tea will work, but some work differently than others. Caffeinated teas help reduce swelling because they constrict blood vessels, but herbal teas such as chamomile contain substances that soothe inflammation and redness. Which ever you choose, pour boiling water over two tea bags and allow them to steep for five minutes, then refrigerate them until cold. Lie on your back, close your eyes, place a cold tea bag ob each eyelid and leave for 15 minutes to half an hour.
Chilled teaspoons: Chill six metal teaspoons in the freezer. Lie down, close your eyes and place one teaspoon, curved side down, over each eyelid. When that teaspoon becomes warm, replace it with another chilled spoon until you’ve used all six spoons.
Egg whites: To tighten skin under the eyes, apply two whisked egg whites the area and allow them to dry.
Potatoes: Potato starch acts as an anti-inflammatory agent to ease irritated eyes. Peel, wash and dry a potato, then grate as fine as possible. Put the pulp in a clean cloth and apply the eyelids for 15 minutes.
Drink water: Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day and you’ll look and feel more hydrated, including the area around your eyes.
