Summer can be intensely damaging to hair. Increased exposure to sun, chlorine from swimming pools, salt from ocean water and perspiration can all turn hair from shiny and silky to flat and frizzy.
Don’t despair! You don’t have to give up summer fun to protect your hair. Just follow these easy steps to keep your hair silky and sexy all summer long:
Get your hair trimmed: An early summer trim will get rid of split ends make styling your hair easier. Warm weather really does make hair grow faster, so schedule hair trims more frequently during summer.
Protect hair from the sun: Wear a sun protective scarf or hat whenever possible and use a hair care protect that contains UV filters every day.
Wet and condition your hair before swimming: Conditioner and clean water will help keep chlorine and salt water out of your hair.
Rinse thoroughly after swimming: If you’re not near a shower or garden hose, keep a spray bottle filled with clean water at hand.
Go for more moisture: If you don’t already use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, it’s time to start.
Clarify and deep condition: Use a clarifying shampoo every ten days or so to remove chemical residues from hair, and follow with a deep conditioning treatment to replenish oils.
Quit blowing so often: Give your hair and scalp a break from dry heat by allowing hair to dry most of the way by itself. If you must use a dryer to style, keep the time to a minimum.
